D1Softball Top 25: Maryland and Texas A&M Enter, Washington Climbs

Welcome to 2023. Opening Weekend did not disappoint as witnessed by early upsets and outstanding performances in the circle and at the plate.

No. 1 Oklahoma remains at the top spot after a 5-0 weekend at the Mark Campbell Collegiate Invitational out west. The Sooners didn’t have the same firepower we saw early last season but picked up three victories over Top 25 opponents. UCLA remains at No. 2 after an explosive weekend in Westwood. The Bruins went 6-0 and outscored opponents 59-3 at the Stacy Winsberg Tournament.

No. 3 Florida jumps two spots ahead of No. 4 Arkansas and No. 5 Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls fell to No. 24 Maryland at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The Terrapins enter the poll after a 4-1 weekend with wins over two ranked squads.

No. 10 Washington moves up from the preseason poll after a 4-1 weekend and a tight game against the defending national champions. No. 15 Kentucky edges out No. 16 Texas. Texas A&M also enters after a 6-0 weekend at home.

The SEC leads all conferences with nine teams followed by the ACC and Pac-12 with four, the Big 12 with three and the Big Ten with a pair. The American, Sun Belt, and C-USA all have a single representative.
