ESPN To Cancel St. Pete/Clearwater Elite InvitationalNews
The 2021 St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational has been canceled, sources confirmed Monday afternoon.
As first reported by Justin’s World of Softball, teams were informed of the cancellation on Monday, and will be invited back for the 2022 tournament.
The invitational is put on by ESPN Events, and all games are broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
In 2020, each team in the field of 16 played four to six games over the course of the four days, with the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) also competing in two exhibition games throughout the weekend.
The 2020 participants included: Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, James Madison, Liberty, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, South Florida, Texas Tech Kansas, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Washington, U.S. Women’s National Team.
An official press release announcing the cancellation is scheduled to be released in the near future.
