The second round of the inaugural D1Softball Memorable Moment Madness is underway and below is the North Bracket! When voting, remember that these are not rankings of the bests teams but rather the best moments. There are four (4) ways to vote on your favorite moment from the 2020 season:

#1 Kentucky scores 12 runs in the final 3 innings to beat Marshall 16-15.

It’s a midweek game and your team is down 15-4 after 3.5 innings. A lot of teams in this situation would “mail it in” and just accept defeat. Not Kentucky. The Wildcats scored 12 runs in the final 3 innings and blanked Marshall in the final 3 frames to win the game 16-15!

#9 Illinois State head coach Melinda Fischer records her 1,100 career win on February 28th.

Illinois State head coach Melinda Fischer recorded her 1,100 career win when the Redbirds defeated Austin Peay on February 28th. Fischer’s wins span 36 seasons has a college head coach at both Eastern Illinois (1979-80) and Illinois State (1986-present). She ranks as the 19th-winningest coach in NCAA Division I softball history and 11th winningest active head coach.

#2 Ohio’s Caitlin Fogue hit 2 grand slams in a single game, including a walk-off.

Ohio University sophomore Caitlin Fogue hit two grand slams in a single game, including a walk-off grand slam to beat St. Bonaventure 9-5.

#10 Mollie Paulick dominated the weekend in the circle. She went 4-0 with a 0.68 ERA & 24 Ks in 20.2 innings.

#14 Michigan’s Lauren Esman delivers a pinch-hit grand slam – her 1st collegiate hit – to break a tie in the 6th & propel Michigan to a win.

Michigan sophomore, Lauren Esman, delivered a pinch-hit grand slam – her first collegiate hit – to break a tied game in the sixth and propel the No. 11-ranked University of Michigan softball team to an 8-4 win against Louisville on Sunday morning (Feb. 16).

#6 Western Illinois’ Abby Carlin finished with 14 K’s in a 6-2 win. The 14 K’s tied a school record with who else but her HC Holly Van Vlymen.

Western Illinois junior Abby Carlin finished with a career-high 14 strikeouts in a 6-2 win over DePaul. Carlin’s strikeout total tied for fifth in program history for a single game. The pitcher she tied? That would be her head coach Holly Van Vlymen, who tallied 14 strikeouts on four different occasions between 1999-2000.

North Bracket (2nd Round) - #14 Michigan vs #6 Western Illinois

#4 Missouri starts 5 different pitchers on opening weekend & picks up 5 wins.

Missouri started five different pitchers on opening weekend and pick up five wins. This was Mizzou’s first unblemished opening weekend since 2016.

#5 Kayla Konwent hits 2 home runs, including a grand slam, to help Wisconsin beat UNC.

Kayla Konwent’s big day at the plate led Wisconsin to a big win over North Carolina. The junior hit two home runs, including a grand slam, as the Badgers beat the Tar Heels 8-3 in Chapel Hill.

South Bracket (2nd Round) - #4 Missouri vs #5 Wisconsin

  • Kayla Konwent hits 2 home runs, including a grand slam, to help Wisconsin beat UNC. (57%, 16 Votes)
  • Missouri starts 5 different pitchers on opening weekend & picks up 5 wins. (43%, 12 Votes)
