How it happened: It wasn’t supposed to happen until the championship series commenced Monday. It almost didn’t finish before Sunday because of weather that pushed back the start more than two hours.

But with the stakes set at survival instead of coronation, Oklahoma and UCLA squared off. 

And while still far from where they hoped to be after beating the Bruins, the Sooners are halfway back.
