D1Softball’s Weekly Awards: Barnard, Spangler, Haendiges
Top StoriesPlayer of the Week: Addison Barnard, Wichita State
The sophomore outfielder went 6-for-12 with a 1.833 slugging percentage last week. Five of her six hits were by way of the long ball, as she tallied 14 RBIs. That work included a career-high six RBIs on Saturday against Tulsa. Barnard now leads the NCAA with 18 home runs.
Pitcher of the Week: Tatum Spangler, Kentucky
The senior lefty went 3-0 on the road against LSU — earning all three wins out of the bullpen. On Friday, she allowed one run on four hits and two walks and struck out a career-best seven batters in 5.1 innings. Saturday, she picked up her second win in 2.1 innings of work in Baton Rouge. She faced nine batters and allowed just one hit. Sunday, she closed out the sweep by throwing 1.1 innings that included game-winning strikeout in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run on base. All of that after five shutout relief innings against Ohio State earlier in the week.
Freshman of the Week: Sarah Haendiges, Oregon State
The rookie didn’t allow a run in two complete game victories against Cal. Including two additional appearances in relief last week, Haendiges gave up nine hits and struck out 16 batters in 17 shutout innings. She pitched in every game as the Beavers put together a perfect 4-0 week.
