The Texas backstop had another stellar week at the play, continuing her breakout season as the centerpiece of the Longhorn batting order. In three games against Texas Tech to close the regular season, Atwood batted .700 (7-10) with four home runs, 13 RBIs, and a pair of walks. An RBI single was Atwood’s first hit and first RBI of the weekend in game one of the series, but she turned in a career performance – even by her own standards – in game two. On Saturday, Atwood was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, earning her second walk of the weekend and scoring three runs. She hit a pair of home runs, including a 1st-inning three-run shot and another three-run bomb in the third inning. She finished her day at the plate with a 2-RBI single in the 5th. To close the weekend, Atwood was 3-4 at the plate on Sunday, with another pair of home runs and “just” three RBIs to her credit.
Pitcher of the Week: Isabella Smith, Campbell
Smith helmed Campbell to a series sweep over Delaware, clinching the CAA crown for the Camels. On the weekend, Smith threw 17.2 innings, picking up a 2-0 record and earning a save. She allowed just one earned run and six hits, posting a 0.40 ERA, and holding opponents to a .103 batting average. In game one of the weekend, Smith threw a complete game 1-hitter, allowing a run and a walk with seven strikeouts to her credit. She returned to the circle to start game two, this time going 3.2 innings after coming back in relief to earn the save. Smith allowed three hits and earned three strikeouts in that outing. To close the weekend, Smith started her third consecutive game, throwing a complete game 2-hit shutout while striking out eight.
Freshman of the Week: Kaitlyn Terry, UCLA
Terry pitched every inning for the Bruins in a three-game series against Arizona State, picking up three wins to move her season’s record to 16-1. She allowed thirteen hits and notched fourteen strikeouts in the trio of outings. In game one of the series, Terry threw a 2-hitter, allowing two runs while walking one batter and collecting a weekend-high six strikeouts. On Saturday, in game two, she allowed five hits but just one run and struck out five, before closing the weekend with 3-strikeout performance in an 8-4 victory.
