D1Softball Weekly Awards: Elish, Mancha, and Sanders
Top StoriesPlayer of the Week: Miranda Elish, P/DP, Oklahoma State
Elish was quite good in her lone pitching appearance of the week, but she doesn’t even need bonus points for two-way play to claim top individual honors this week. Elish made things miserable for Texas Tech solely by swinging a bat. In three games, the super senior went 8-for-8 with four home runs and nine RBIs. She’s been hitting regularly all season, and generally holding her own in the box, but she still entered the week with no home runs and five RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week: Gianna Mancha, P, UCF
Mancha led the Knights to an all out sweep of their I-4 rivals last weekend tossing two complete games for the Knights against USF. She threw a total of 14 innings while allowing just three hits and striking out 19. The senior righthander held the Bulls to a .065 batting average and lowered her ERA to 1.85.
Freshman of the Week: Cydney Sanders, 1B, Arizona State
The rookie infielder was red hot at the plate in the ASU’s sweep of Arizona. Sanders batted .545 with two doubles, four runs, two home runs, and six RBIs. She accumulated 14 total bases and is currently fifth in the NCAA with a 0.594 on base percentage.
