FGCU Head Coach David Deiros Retiring After 2025 Season
Top StoriesFlorida Gulf Coast head coach David Deiros will retire from coaching following the 2025 season.
Deiros will move into an athletic administration role at FGCU after leaving coaching, according to a school press release.
“Building FGCU softball and contributing to its, and the university’s, unprecedented growth has been, and continues to be, the highlight of my professional life,” Deiros said in a statement. “This incredible 24-year journey has only been possible because of the fantastic student-athletes and assistant coaches that have donned the Blue and Green.
“With that, I’d like to announce that once the 2025 season concludes, I will retire from coaching and transition into an athletics administration leadership role. I look forward to and am energized about this new opportunity ahead of me.”
The architect of the FGCU softball program, Deiros has degrees in chemistry and was a high school teacher and coach before becoming the founding head coach of FGCU’s softball program. He is the only head coach the program has known and enters his 23rd season at the helm in 2025.
During his tenure, Deiros shepherded the program’s transition from Division 2 to Division 1 and won his first ASUN conference regular-season title in 2008. The Eagles also won regular-season crowns in 2012 and 2016 and have made two NCAA tournament appearances.
The victor of 781 career games entering the 2025 season, Deiros was the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2016 and shepherded five ASUN Players of the Year.
FGCU finished the 2024 season with a 38-21 overall record and a 16-8 conference showing. The Eagles represented the ASUN in the NCAA tournament and finished 3rd in the Gainesville Regional.
