Lauren Chamberlain Resigns as WPF Commissioner
Lauren Chamberlain announced via her Twitter/X on Thursday that she has resigned from her position as the Women’s Professional Fastpitch commissioner following the league’s inaugural season.
Chamberlain put out this statement: “After much reflection and consideration, I put my notice in to resign from my position as the Commissioner of the WPF on July 14th, 2023. The resignation was officially effective at the conclusion of championships, so that I could remain committed to the league and teams through the season entirely. This decision wasn’t made lightly, as I have cherished every moment working alongside our incredible athletes and witnessing the support of our passionate fans.”
Chamberlain helped steer the league through its first two years and inaugural season. After an exhibition season in 2022, the league expanded to four teams; Oklahoma City Spark, Texas Smoke, USSSA Pride and Smash It Sports Vipers for its first true season in 2023 with the Smoke winning the championship.
The WPF has not stated when a search for a new commissioner will begin.
