Nobody was swinging a hotter bat than Brady during the Opening Weekend. The redshirt junior went 13 for 16 with 13 RBIs and four home runs to help the Bruins go 6-0. Brady tied a 24-year-old program record with 10 consecutive base hits. Brady joined legends Lisa Fernandez and Stacey Nuveman in that elite group. Brady’s 13 hits are tied for the second most in program history through the first six games. Brady leads the NCAA in total bases (25), is tied for first in home runs and rans second in hits and RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week: Kelly Maxwell, Oklahoma State
The Cowgirls ace was 2-0 with 0.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts and only two walks in 13.0 innings pitched at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge. Maxwell opened the season with a 15-strikeout, two-hit shutout against Oregon in which she didn’t walk a single batter in 92 pitches. The redshirt senior bookended the event by throwing six shutout innings against Ole Miss with eight strikeouts. The Cowgirls won both games 3-0.
Freshman of the Week: Ruby Meylan, Washington
The rookie made her college debut against challenging competition at the Mark Campbell Invitational and displayed her budding potential. Meylan threw 14.0 innings over four games, finishing 2-0 with a save. Across the four games, she allowed seven hits and no earned runs while striking out 16 and walking only one batter. Against Liberty, Meylan threw a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings. She gave up three hits in 3.0 innings against Duke, two hits in 3.0 innings against No. 1 Oklahoma and one hit in 2.0 innings against LMU.
