Outfield and Designated Player Power Rankings: Week 7

Analysis

Who are the best of the best at each position in college softball? D1Softball seeks this out based on offensive production, defensive reliability, individual impact on their teams and much more.

Note: Each player’s position is determined by where they started a majority or plurality of games this season. The position is subject to change as the season goes on.

Jayda Coleman has firmly placed herself in the Player of the Year conversation. Anytime your batting average hangs around .500, it’s incredibly impressive. The Oklahoma outfielder also doesn’t do it with singles, as she’s tied for the team lead in home runs (8). Oh, she’s also 11-for-11 in stolen bases and walked 26 times. Coleman’s incredible defense in center also gets overlooked. Her case for being the top outfielder is pretty easy to make.

Rylin Hedgecock and Haley Lee remain atop of the designated player rankings. Hedgecock had a pair of home runs in Arkansas’ rout of Florida in the series finale and she had the go-ahead blast in the rubber match against Alabama. Lee hasn’t been blasting home runs, but teams aren’t letting her because they keep walking her.
