The memory popped up on Jessica Purcell-Fitu’s Facebook timeline and she couldn’t help but smile. Purcell-Fitu was amazed it had already been a decade since experiencing that historic season with BYU. It seemed like only yesterday she was having the most fun she’s ever had on a softball diamond.
The 2010 BYU team set numerous records, and advanced past the NCAA regional round for the first and only time in program history. The celebratory shot from the clinching win shows up annually on the social media timelines of many Cougars’ players.
“If you look at the picture, it’s just pure joy,” said Purcell-Fitu, a junior catcher on the team. “I seriously think I jumped sky high and was just so happy after that last pitch. That was our national championship. I honestly get chills talking about it.”
