D1Softball’s Field of 64: Final Projections
PostseasonWith Selection Sunday just 24 hours away and the NCAA announcing the 20 potential host sites, we have updated our set of projections for the 2021 Road to Oklahoma City.
How the NCAA selection committee will weigh the Big Ten and the RPI accordingly is the biggest question mark in putting together the field of 64.
On Saturday evening, the team met to discuss final projections.
Duke enters the national seeds at No. 14 as Clemson drops out. Why? Duke won the ACC Tournament and Clemson has just four wins against ranked teams. Bearing in mind Duke is not one of the predetermined sites, we are sending them to Texas. We also have Missouri at No. 7 and LSU at No. 8, rewarding them for SOS and wins over top 50 opponents.
Taking into account COVID-19 health concerns and typical regional travel (400 mile limit), we put together a field based on what the committee should do.
The SEC lead our top 16 national seeds with six, followed by the Pac-12 with five, the Big 12 and ACC with two, and the Big Ten with one.
