Memphis to hire Alabama’s VanBrakle Prothro as its next head coach
NewsMemphis is expected to hire Alabama assistant coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro as its next head coach, sources confirmed to D1Softball on Sunday.
VanBrakle Prothro was part of the staff at her alma mater for 11 years, including the program’s 2012 national championship. She was responsible for the pitching staff under Patrick Murphy and helped develop the likes of Montana Fouts, Jackie Traina and Sydney Littlejohn.
VanBrakle Prothro does have experience as a head coach. She spent one year as the head coach at Samford (2010, 14-40 record) and two years as head coach at Birmingham Southern. She’ll look to guide Memphis back to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
Natalie Poole announced her resignation at Memphis in June after leading the program for 11 seasons. She was recently hired as the head coach at Southern Miss.
