OPINION: Courts, conferences and Congress: The battle shaping the future of college athletics
Two big things happened last week in the ongoing battle over the future of college sports:
- Twenty-eight athletic conferences launched The Coalition for the Future of College Athletics (C4FCA) a group that will lobby Congress to pass federal legislation establishing a uniform national name, image, and likeness (NIL) standard.
- US District Judge Claudia Wilken granted class-action status to three groups of athletes in an NIL-related antitrust lawsuit filed against the NCAA and the Power Five conferences.
