It won’t surprise softball fans that the second generation of the first mother-daughter combination to compete in the Olympics grew up playing the sport under sunny California skies. The state grows just about everything, and that includes softball players.
It is more of an upset that the mother and daughter spoke Italian as they sat around the Southern California dinner table. Sat and sat, through traditional Italian dinners that stretched for hours while Loredana Auletta, Pier Piancastelli and their daughters talked about the day.
