D1Softball Analytics No. 7 Pitcher: Minnesota’s Amber Fiser

Amber Fiser felt like she was pitching with the weight of the world on her shoulders.

The University of Minnesota All-American wanted to end her college career with her best season. Fiser knew expectations were high after leading the Gophers to the first Women’s College World Series appearance in program history and earning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors.

Instead of focusing on the present in 2020, Fiser was making comparisons to the past.

But things finally began clicking for Fiser during Minnesota’s trip to Hawaii for a tournament in mid-March.

“I was feeling like myself again and not putting as much pressure on myself,” Fiser said. “I was performing the best I could for my team in that moment and not worrying about the little things. Everything was coming together.”

Unfortunately for Fiser, she wouldn’t get a chance to see it through. Within a few days, the season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fiser finished 10-7 with a 2.17 ERA, 145 strikeouts and 36 walks in 100 innings pitched. The righthander ranked as the No. 7 pitcher on D1Softball’s Top 100 Analytics list.

Fiser has the opportunity for a senior season do-over in 2021. She is taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility the NCAA granted, and will return to Minnesota for another year.
