D1Softball Top 25: Texas, Oklahoma State Rise; Virginia Tech Enters

Top 25

The 2024 season is officially underway! The first weekend of games are in the books, which means it’s time for the first D1Softball Top 25 poll of the regular season.

Oklahoma remained undefeated in Puerto Vallarta, starting the year 4-0 and the Sooner retain their long-held spot atop the Top 25. Big 12 rival Texas jumps up to No. 2 in the rankings after an undefeated showing of their own, a weekend that included two wins over UCLA and 64 total runs scored across five games.

Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Georgia, and LSU all started the year undefeated and all earned a spot in the top ten this week. The Lady Vols (No. 3) were 3-0 with a pair of wins over Baylor, while Oklahoma State (No. 4) picked up five wins, including a run-rule victory over UCLA. Georgia (No. 5) threw three shutouts in five games in a home tournament, while LSU’s pitching staff threw five shutouts in five games on their own home field.

Four teams that were not ranked in the D1Softball preseason poll entered the rankings after week one – No. 11 Missouri, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 16 Virginia Tech, and No. 21 Indiana.
