D1Softball Top 25: Oklahoma State Climbs, Utah and Texas State Enter the PartyTop Stories
It may not have been complete chaos across college softball last week, but there is Bedlam atop the D1Softball Top 25. After winning two out of three in a WCWS-caliber series with Florida State, combined with UCLA surprising run-rule defeat against old rival California, Oklahoma State ascends to No. 2. The Bruins don’t tumble far after salvaging a series win to open Pac-12 play, dropping only to No. 3
Elsewhere, the Bevo Classic proved slightly costly to host Texas, which missed a chance to move into the top 10 after a pair of losses, and Alabama, which nearly tumbled out of the top 20 after three losses. The winner in Austin? Texas State, which arrives at No. 25 after beating both the Longhorns and Tide. Utah also debuts at No. 23 this week after emerging as the only Pac-12 team to survive the opening weekend of conference play without a loss (Stanford begins league play this week).
Kentucky and Texas A&M were the big winners as SEC play began, the Wildcats climbing to No. 9 after sweeping Missouri and the Aggies after winning two of three at reigning SEC champion Arkansas. Unranked to begin the season, Trisha Ford’s team climbs to No. 13 this week.
The conference math remains largely unchanged. The SEC leads the way with nine ranked teams, followed by the Pac-12 (six), ACC (four) and Big 12 (four). The Big Ten and Sun Belt round it out.
